Chalcedony

Chalcedony is a form of quartz whose crystals are too smallto be seen without magnification. Chalcedony is a single colour type of quartz which is usually pale blue,grey or white.

The microcrystalline group of quartz also include agate,carnelian, bloodstone, jasper and onyx.

The colour of each piece of Chalcedony is governed by localmetallic elements such as iron, nickel and copper etc.

Chalcedony is found in many locations, and as such, is asemi-precious stone.  The best jewelleryquality chalcedony comes from Brazil and India.

Babylonian and Assyrian excavations have revealed Chalcedonybeing used in jewellery and precious ornaments dating back to 500BC.
